Playlab runs an instance hosted entirely in the European Union, available at eu.playlab.ai. All processing and storage of data for that instance, including by subprocessors, happens within the EU.
The EU instance is available to enterprise customers. To learn more, contact our team at [email protected]. All other sign-ups use the Global instance at app.playlab.ai.

How is the EU instance different from the Global instance?

The intention is that Playlab functions the same in the Global and EU instances, with exceptions only as required to maintain data sovereignty with compliant subprocessors. Today, that means:
  • A focused set of AI models. The EU instance offers models only from providers that guarantee processing within the EU. See Selecting an LLM for how model choice works.
  • Local-only speech. For now, Voice Output in the EU instance uses local speech, so text is not sent to a third-party voice provider.
If your organization uses the EU instance, sign in at eu.playlab.ai. Accounts on the Global instance and the EU instance are separate.

Frequently asked questions

What is a subprocessor, and why are they used?

A subprocessor is a third-party service provider that processes data on Playlab’s behalf to help us run the platform, such as cloud hosting or AI model providers. See the current list and details at trust.playlab.ai/subprocessors.

Do subprocessors use student data for advertising or to build student profiles?

No.

Do any subprocessors train AI models on student data or user content?

No.

Is the EU instance GDPR compliant?

Yes. Under the GDPR, you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to the processing of your personal information. Email [email protected] to exercise these rights, or [email protected] with questions about Playlab’s data processing agreement (DPA).

Which LLM vendors are called from the EU, and how is the EU AI Act requirement for EU-only inference met?

In the EU, Playlab only uses LLM subprocessors that guarantee processing within the EU. These currently include AWS Bedrock, Google AI Agent Platform (formerly Vertex AI), and Microsoft Azure, hosted in enterprise-grade EU datacenters. See trust.playlab.ai/subprocessors for the current list.

Where are subprocessors located, and where is student data stored?

Subprocessors for the Global instance are located in the US, and subprocessors for the EU instance are located in the EU, so EU instance data is stored in the EU. Subprocessors used only by the Global instance never receive EU instance data.

How will updates to subprocessors be communicated?

On trust.playlab.ai/subprocessors, click Subscribe to Updates in the top-right corner to get notified when subprocessors change.
